Volcanic region Laacher lake

13000 years ago there was an gigantic volcanic eruption in the western part of Germany at the today´s lake "Laacher See". The eruption was similar to the famous Santorini eruption in Greece. It covered hundreds of kilometres with pumice. The area is defined still today as an active volcanic region with possible activity in future. There are still mofeta in the east part of the lake that can be watched bubbling in the waters of Laacher lake.

The area of the volcanic east Eifel is an ideal region for GEO-Tourism and volcanological hiking tours. There are also cultural, historical and culinaric highlights.
